I remember my first lecture on BSc Psychology at the University of East London, 2001. Dr Pippa Dell, I still remember her name, while speaking to the auditorium of about 180 students, said in the lines of, ‘if you have any religious belief leave it at the door before entering your psychology class.’ I was surprised, then excited even though I am of the Christian faith. I was in University to learn about Psychology and I knew in that moment this was going to happen. Education is not about agendas or propagandas. Leave this at the door before entering the class and just educate your students.
I got pregnant while writing my final year project, and Dr Mark Turner was an amazing, supportive supervisor. I believe this is still the practice, supporting women through education irrespective of their backgrounds and challenges. Thank you UEL, my love for Psychology is deep.
